PAQS YQSG







On 15 August 2009, young members from PAQS country members attended the Sustainability Committee Meeting at Kuala Lumpur and formed the first Young Quantity Surveyors Group committee. This committee was subsequently appointed by the PAQS Board under PAQS Constitution article 3.2. Quantity surveying students and young members under 40 year of age and who are from the country members are encouraged to join YQSG.






We have held 8 young QS programmes in the past -

  • 2022 in Singapore – 9th – 10th September 2022 - The YQSG Programme was finally held offline after 2 years of Global COVID-19 restrictions for the public event. The young QSes from 9 countries met up at Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen on the first day and had ice breaking game. It was then continued with SISV Organising Committee who gave a presentation on the congress theme - Disruption and Transformation in the Built Environment and its 4 sub topics. In the second half of the event, all the participants were grouped into 5 focus group discussion to brainstorm on the 4 sub topics and each group shared with the participants what their countries did for sustainability & green and well. First day was closed with traditional gift exchange and views from the new members. The YQSG went for Peranakan dinner and had bowling thereafter as one of the social events. The second day started with factory visit to PPVC factory in the morning. The group also went to iconic Singapore tourist spot: Garden by the Bay and Merlion statue in the afternoon.
  • 2016 in Christchurch, New Zealand - 20th - 21st May 2016 - Maintaining the two day YQSG Programme, young QSes from 10 countries met up in BreakFree Hotel with the usual presentation by each country's representative. With gift exchanged, group photo taken and lunch taken, the group was taken to the Red Bus Tour giving an overview of Christchurch's current construction state. Over 1200 buildings were demolished and rebuilding is underway. The city is decorated with murals and artworks to highlight the hopeful path for local and visitors. The second day feature site visits to the Transitional Cathedral, New Bus Exchange, Canterbury Art Gallery and Art Museum. The night ended at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve where the group had an insight of Maori culture before a buffet dinner is served.
  • 2015 in Yokohama, Japan - 28th - 29th May 2015 - Young QSes from over 10 countries gathered in Yokohama World Porters in the morning of 28th May 2015 to share each country's current construction conditions followed by group photos, gift exchange and lunch. The afternoon site visit to Taisei Technology Center was an eye opening experience featuring the energy savings to the quake resistance implementation. Dinner was in an Izakaya restaurant where familiar faces catch up and new faces are introduced. The second day brought the Young QSes to more site visits that are iconic in Tokyo namely: Roppongi, Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree and Sensoji Temple before travelling back to Yokohama for dinner.
  • 2014 in Hong Kong, China - 6th - 7th June 2014 - The two day programme kicks off in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with the sharing of each country's current construction market followed by lunch and an ice breaking game session. The first evening start with a one of a kind private tram party and end with a scrumptious dinner. The following day is an eye opening adventure starting with the visit to Hong Kong's MTR Stations and Operation Centre. After lunch, the young QSes visited a few green buildings, heritage and geological sites. The programme ended with a karaoke gathering to strengthen the bond between new faces if not already familiarised.
  • 2013 in Xi'an, China - 17th - 18th May 2013 - YQSG Programme has adopted a two day programme which begins with a day tour to Terracotta Warrior, Shan Xi Museum & the Geese Tower. The following day was the spotlight of YQSG Programme where young QSes gather together to share their current construction market as well as their ideas and experiences to foster the younger generation who are our future. The second day end with a Specialty Dinner held along with the PAQS delegates.
  • 2012 in Brunei Darussalam - 7 July 2012 - 50 young members joined the programme. In the morning, we had presentations and ice-breaking game while in the afternoon we had site visit to an international school and city tour (water village etc). We had combined welcome dinner with the Main Congress.
  • 2011 in Colombo, Sri Lanka - the one-day programme includes speeches and presentation from each country member in the morning, city tour in the afternoon with dinner party at night.
  • 2010 in Singapore - 23rd to 24th July 2010 - 17 young members from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and students from National University of Singapore attended the programme. The programme included Singapore delicacy dining, sharing session by different members of participating countries, and visit to Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
